    It's always a pleasure to welcome Allan Thomson and Bob Wallace, pictured with Lady Fraser, to the Cancer Centre. Kirriemuir Rotarians and long-term NCC supporters, Allan and Bob recently donated a further £2000 from sales of their Kirrie the Fit? CD, raising their fundraising total to an amazing £14,000. CDs are selling fast, with copies still availble via the Rotary Club of Kirriemuir website.

    The Ninewells Cancer Campaign was delighted to receive a very generous donation on behalf of the Alexander family to support research into pancreatic cancer. The cheque was presented by Mr Robert Alexander whose wife Elizabeth had sadly passed away from the disease.

    We were delighted to welcome Dr Chris Wild, Director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), to the Gannochy Trust Lecture Theatre in July to give the 2017 NCC lecture “Complementing the genome with the exposome: a key to understanding the causes and prevention of cancer”, as part of a programme of events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the University of Dundee.

     Kirriemuir Rotarians Allan Thomson and Bob Wallace alias Kirrie the Fit ? have donated a further £2,000 to Ninewells Cancer Campaign bringing the total now given to a remarkable £11,000.   The latest cash represents further proceeds from sales of Allan’s book of Doric poems “The Moss o’ Rora” and donations from Kirrie the Fit ?

    We recently welcomed more than 20 members of The Rotary Club of Kirriemuir to the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre, when Mr Allan Thomson presented Lady Fraser with a cheque for £1000, following further sales of his popular book of Doric poems and short stories, The Moss o'Rora, with further donations received at recent performaces of Kirrie The Fit by Allan and fellow Rotarian Bob Wallace.

    We were delighted to welcome Robyn West, a long-term supporter of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, to Professor Petty’s public lecture. Robyn presented Lady Fraser with a cheque for £2357.50, following a performance by the Gary Barlow tribute act Dan Hadfield at Montrose Town Hall and a “meet and greet” afternoon tea event in the Pavilion Café, Montrose.

    SCIENTISTS in Dundee have uncovered important information about how ovarian cancer becomes resistant to certain treatments, according to research published recentlyin the British Journal of Cancer.

    The researchers discovered that a gene called ABCB1, which is known to play a role in resistance to the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel in ovarian cancers, also causes resistance to other ovarian cancer treatments.

    Many congratulations to Pitlochry librarian Grace Grant, recently chosen as Rotary Citizen of the Year by the local community. Grace chose to share her prize award with local charities, including the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, adding to funds raised previously raised through the sale of handmade knitted goods.
